A patch can be an upgrade (adding increased features), a bug fix, a new hardware driver or update to address new issues such as security or stability problems.

Caching can either be permanent or valid only for a certain timespan, and the cache can contain any type of data. In Drupal 8, anonymous page caching is enabled by default.
